Animus is a futuristic service that uses Artificial Intelligence to help people re-discover themselves and their call to happiness. Starting from a service presented in Black Mirror, we analyzed the negative implications of AI in using personal data, and found a positive approach to it. The newly defined service was developed using several rounds of prototyping and testing. The final experience prototype session was conducted with a setup carefully curated for a particular user. The test feedback aided in further defining the service and creating post-service souvenir.

This project was done in a group of 6 as a part of a course called ‘Visualisation and Prototyping’.

BRIEF

The starting point

We began by analyzing the Black Mirror episode, 'be right back'.

The episode shows an AI-based service that lets people stay in touch with the deceased using their digital footprint. Using this, grieving Martha reconnects with her dead husband and becomes dependent.

How can we leverage the technology shown and convert this black mirror service into a light mirror one?

How might we utilize the power of artificial intelligence to provide support in the time of grieving for the loss of a loved one?

PROTOTYPE BUILDING AND TESTING

How did we build the experience?

We build the prototype for the 'immersive experience' part of the service, which would take place within the experience center. It involved the following:

01

Creating and curating multimedia contents to be projected specific to the chosen participant for testing

02

Planning and setting the space; lighting, props, speakers and cameras

03

Research and application of makeup and dress for the guide

04

Testing the dialogues of the guide using role-playing

05

Creating feedback session to understand how the user’s experience was to further improve it

MAIN EXPERIENCE PROTOTYPING

USER FEEDBACK AND CO-CREATION

How did we test the user experience?

Aim

To gain feedback on the experience; what worked, what did not, what could be changed?

Methods

01

02

Post-experience interview (open-ended questions)

Collage storyboard making; to help articulate and visualise her experience through images, keywords and text
